Coleraine FC moved three points clear at the top of the Irish Premiership after a hard-fought 3-2 win away to Bangor. Joe Thomson scored the decisive goal with 16 minutes remaining to cap a comeback at Clandeboye Park.

Tiarnan Mulvenna gave the hosts a shock lead after just five minutes, finishing from Iestyn Hughes's cross. Coleraine responded through Matthew Shevlin, who levelled in the 22nd minute after being set up by Aidan Wilson's long ball.

The visitors took the lead just before half-time. Will Patching was fouled in the area by Hughes, and the midfielder stepped up to convert the penalty. "Up stepped Patching to slot home into the bottom right-hand corner give his side the lead," he said afterwards.

How the match was won

The second half was a scrappy affair with few clear openings. The winner arrived from a left-wing corner delivered by Patching. The midfielder whipped it in from the edge of the area and it crashed off the post and into the net, with Thomson credited with the 74th-minute finish.

Bangor pulled one back in the final minute of regular time through a Mulvenna free-kick, but Coleraine held on to claim a vital three points. The win stays at the summit, where they now have 22 points from nine matches.

This result extends Coleraine's strong recent form to four wins from their last five league outings. Their next challenge is a home fixture against Cliftonville on Saturday, October 10th. Details of that match and the full schedule are available on our fixtures page.
