Coleraine FC manager Ruaidhri Higgins has pointed to his squad's depth and character as key factors behind their five-game winning run in the Premiership. The league leaders host Limavady United at The Showgrounds this weekend looking to extend their advantage at the top of the table.
Higgins highlighted the different ways his team has secured victories, including a dramatic 2-1 win at Glentoran where substitutes Joe Thomson and Lewis McGregor scored in the 72nd and 94th minutes. "It’s been different ways to win football matches," Higgins said. The manager believes these late shows reveal the group's resilience. "I think winning late shows a couple of different things," he added, emphasising the personality within the squad.
Coleraine sit first in the Premiership with 19 points from seven matches, three points clear of Linfield. Their recent form reads five consecutive wins, scoring 17 goals and conceding just five in the league this season.
Higgins warned that the visit of Limavady United, who have won their last two matches including a victory at Crusaders, will be a tough challenge. He noted it is the third game in quick succession for his players, requiring energy both on the pitch and from the supporters in the stands. The last league meeting between the sides was almost two decades ago, though they met in a pre-season friendly in July, which Coleraine won 1-0.
The manager called on the home crowd to provide a strong atmosphere, stating they have been amazing so far and can have a massive part to play. With an expectancy now surrounding the club, Higgins stressed the need for everyone in the squad to contribute over the course of the season to achieve their objectives. Tickets for the match at The Showgrounds are available online.
