In a thrilling opening day of the Sports Premiership, Coleraine FC secured a 3-1 victory over Dungannon Swifts. The Bannsiders demonstrated their intent from the start with goals from Jay Henderson, Ben Doherty, and Matthew Shevlin. Manager Ruaidhri Higgins spoke to Coleraine TV after the match, expressing his satisfaction with the team's performance.

‘It was a fantastic win for us,’ said Higgins. ‘We knew we were up against a very strong Dungannon Swifts side, so it’s great to come out on top.’ The manager highlighted how his players managed to score at crucial moments in the game, which ultimately ensured they left Stangmore Park with three valuable points.

‘The goals came at important times,’ Higgins continued. ‘We needed those scores to maintain our momentum and keep Dungannon Swifts under pressure. It’s always tough starting a new season, but this win gives us a great boost of confidence.’

Despite the victory, Coleraine FC faced some setbacks as Cameron Stewart and Rowan McDonald were withdrawn from the match due to knocks. Higgins admitted he is closely monitoring their fitness status ahead of future games.

‘We’re just hoping that both players will be back on their feet soon,’ said Higgins. ‘Their absence was a blow, but we’ll do our best to support them in their recovery.’

The win over Dungannon Swifts sets Coleraine FC up for a strong start to the season and positions them well as they aim to compete at the top of the league table.
