Coleraine FC Partners with Social Football for Men's Initiative
Coleraine FC is delighted to announce a new partnership with Social Football, providing an opportunity for men aged 55 and over to enjoy regular football in a friendly, relaxed and welcoming environment. Launched just prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, sessions take place every Thursday from 10am to 11am at the Coleraine University Sports Hall, offering participants the chance to stay active, enjoy playing football and build new social connections in the process.
The focus is very much on participation, enjoyment and community, making the sessions suitable for players of all abilities. Whether you are returning to football after many years or simply looking for a fun way to keep active and meet others, everyone is welcome. Following each session, participants can stay for tea, coffee, buns and a chat, which provides an opportunity to socialise and get to know fellow players.
Organiser of Social Football, Peter Morrow said: “The idea behind Social Football is to bring men together. “Men as we all know don’t talk to each other and don’t discuss things, so from that perspective it has worked quite well. “There’s a lot of nonsense talked, but again, they get a laugh from it. “It’s a great social occasion for the guys and I know they look forward to it every week.”
Head of Community Football at Coleraine FC, David McDaid added: “I think it’s brilliant that the club is branching out into the community for initiatives like this. “I’ve come down and met the guys and they’ve been running this for a long, long time. “They want to grow the programme and we are more than happy to help as best as we possibly can to do that. “They are very competitive and some of them are quick on their feet, but they all love it. “The guys get their hour of playing football, but the time spent after chatting to each other is helpful.”
