Coleraine FC lost their place at the summit of the Irish Premiership after a 3-0 defeat to Linfield at Windsor Park on Saturday. Goals from Rhys Brennan, Adam Frizzell and Kitt Nelson secured a statement win for the hosts, who now lead the table by two points. This result on Saturday 7 November means Coleraine, who sit first in the Premiership on 35 points after 14 games, are now two points clear of Linfield.
Brennan opened the scoring three minutes before half-time, skipping past a defender before seeing his initial effort saved by Lewis Webb and converting the rebound. Adam Frizzell doubled the advantage early in the second half, capitalising on a turnover in the Coleraine half to score his third goal of the campaign. Kitt Nelson completed the scoring with a solo effort in the 73rd minute.
Coleraine captain Joel Cooper had threatened early with a low shot saved by Chris Johns, but the Bannsiders struggled to build momentum thereafter. The visitors made five substitutions in a single change on 54 minutes, introducing Thomson, Boyle, Brooks, McGregor and Henderson. Stewart received a yellow card for Coleraine in the first half.
The loss ends a run of three consecutive league wins for Coleraine, who had previously beaten Larne, Crusaders and Cliftonville. Their recent form over the last five games stands at three wins, one draw, and one loss, with the sequence including a 1-1 draw with Glentoran on Friday 30 October and a 5-0 victory over Crusaders FC on Saturday 24 October. They remain on 35 points from 14 games, a record of eleven wins, two draws, and one loss, but now sit second in the standings. Their next match is a key home fixture against Portadown at The Showgrounds on Friday, November 13. Portadown currently sit 12th in the table, and the last meeting between the sides ended in a 3-0 away win for Coleraine on Friday 28 August.
