The Showgrounds, usually a cauldron of passionate support for our beloved Bannsiders, found itself regrettably overshadowed by incidents of antisocial behaviour and pitch incursions during the recent Irish League clash against Cliftonville. In response, Coleraine FC has issued a comprehensive statement, unequivocally condemning these actions and reinforcing its unwavering commitment to ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all supporters.

The fixture on Saturday, 25th November, saw Rodney McAree's side battle hard, but ultimately succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the North Belfast visitors. Goals from Joe Gormley and Liam McStravick sealed the points for the Reds, overshadowing what should have been a vibrant showcase of NIFL Premiership football. Unfortunately, the post-match discussions have largely centred not on the on-field endeavour, but on the unacceptable conduct that marred parts of the afternoon. Multiple pitch incursions by a small minority of individuals not only disrupted proceedings but also posed significant safety risks to players, officials, and fellow fans alike. The club is clear: such behaviour has no place at The Showgrounds.

Following a thorough review of the events, the club released a detailed statement outlining its firm stance. Coleraine FC expressed profound disappointment and reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards any form of anti-social behaviour. The statement confirmed that the club is actively collaborating with the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) and other relevant authorities to identify and bring to account those responsible for the disturbances. Investigations are ongoing, utilising CCTV footage and witness accounts, with the promise of severe penalties for offenders, including lengthy stadium bans and potential legal action. Furthermore, the club is acutely aware of the potential for severe sanctions from the Irish FA, which could include hefty fines or even partial stadium closures, impacting the entire club and its loyal fanbase.

While these incidents are deeply regrettable, it is crucial to remember they are the actions of a tiny minority. The overwhelming majority of Coleraine supporters exemplify the very best of local football fandom – passionate, respectful, and dedicated. The Bannsiders' faithful have always been the heart and soul of The Showgrounds, creating an electric atmosphere that drives the team forward. We urge all true supporters to continue to champion our club with pride and in a manner that upholds the esteemed reputation of Coleraine FC, reminding everyone that The Showgrounds is a family venue first and foremost.

Coleraine FC remains steadfast in its dedication to providing an enjoyable and secure matchday experience for every visitor. By working together, the club and its genuine supporters can ensure that future fixtures are remembered solely for the football and the positive spirit of the Bannsiders.
