Coleraine FC has secured a licence to sell and consume alcohol in a new matchday fanzone at The Showgrounds. The trial for the enhanced fan experience begins this Saturday, September 5, when the league leaders host Crusaders.
This development, reported by NorthernIrelandWorld, is a key part of the club's drive to improve the atmosphere and facilities for supporters. The fanzone will be situated behind the Railway End stand. Home fans will be able to purchase drinks from the zone and take them into the stadium, with provisions also made for visiting supporters.
What will the new fanzone offer?
The initial launch against Crusaders will feature live music from Niall Mack. While the area won't be fully finished for the first game, overhead coverings for poor weather are planned in the coming weeks. Further seating and other features will be added to create a more complete environment. All future catering units and the alcohol service point will be permanently located within this fanzone space. Food and beverage operations will be delivered by Gareth at Phat Events.
Chief Executive Officer Dale Pryde-MacDonald outlined the club's ambition. "This is a significant moment for our supporters," he said. "By having this trial, it will allow us to enhance the matchday experience, launch our new fanzone and create what we hope will be a positive, responsible and enjoyable environment."

The fanzone launch comes as Coleraine enjoys a strong start to the Premiership season. They currently sit first in the table with 10 points from four games, boasting a record of three wins and one draw. "We strongly warn supporters to drink responsibly and ensure that behaviour does not fall below levels that would lead to an instant stop of the sale of alcohol at the ground," they said. The PSNI has been involved in the process, providing support and education to the club to help ensure a safe implementation.
